My experience with Android Studio and VS Code for Flutter development.
I have been using Android Studio since I started Flutter development. It was a natural choice because most beginner Flutter courses used Android Studio. I knew that VS Code was also available for Flutter development, but I had a preconceived notion that it was unfriendly to users. I was satisfied with Android Studio, so I continued using it.
Recently, I considered switching to VS Code when GitHub Copilot chat was released on VS Code but not on Android Studio. However, I believed that it would eventually be released on Android Studio. And now, it is supported. So, I continued using Android Studio.
However, yesterday, I realized that the Figma extension was available on VS Code but not on Android Studio. This was a wake-up call for me. Figma is a popular design tool that is often used with Flutter. I knew that Figma would eventually be available on Android Studio, but I realized that VS Code was always the first to support new technologies. So, if I wanted to use trendy technologies, I would have to switch to VS Code.
Switching to VS Code:
I have been struggling to switch to VS Code from Android Studio. However, contrary to my concerns, I was able to use most of the features that I used in Android Studio. I also found that there are many interesting features that I can use if I take advantage of extensions. I am enjoying the excitement of exploring new features, as if I were playing a new game.
Conclusion:
I do not think that VS Code is always better than Android Studio. I think that Android Studio is more suitable for beginners because the UI is more intuitive. However, I think that the choice of which tool to use is a matter of preference for experienced developers. Both are good development tools.
